I am a dual UK/US national born in the Lake District, Cumbria and have had a love of drawing and design from an early age. These interests ultimately led to a degree in Architecture from The University of Sheffield in 2001. A downturn in the building industry in the early 2000s meant I took a different path professionally and became a Software Engineer, working in Finance. While living in Chicago, a Christmas gift of life drawing lessons rekindled my love of drawing. Several years later, back in the UK, I began to experiment with paints - first oils, but more recently also discovering a love for gouache and casein. I like to paint alla prima and look for local subjects with strong lighting, allowing me to explore the contrasts of light and shadow across forms. I enjoy attempting to capture the essence of a place, be it peaceful, bustling, gloomy, or even desolate. I currently reside in Hampton Falls, NH with my wife and our two children, having recently relocated from the UK. I look forward to attempting to capture many local scenes as I familiarize myself with the area.
