Ten Shows to See This Weekend: 3/25 & 3/26

It's the first weekend of spring! What better way to celebrate than a weekend full of great art? In-house gallery hop expert Alex Allenchey presents his list of top ten shows to see this weekend.

If you need a break from college basketball, but not total withdrawal...

March Madness @ Fort Gansevoort - thru 5/7

Bracket busted but still feeding off the frenzy of fast-paced athletics? Channel some of that fervor into a trip to Fort Gansevoort in the Meatpacking District, where artist Hank Willis Thomas and gallery founder Adam Shopkin have arranged a sport-centric exhibition, “March Madness,” which springboards off the excitement of the NCAA tournament to more closely examine how athletics are intertwined with everyday life. Featuring 31 artists, all of whom are women, the expansive group show subverts traditional masculine archetypes, using the female form as metaphor for how women are positioning themselves to advance important social issues.
