As we enter March, our in-house gallery hop expert Alex Allenchey shares with us his top ten shows to check out this weekend. Take a walk through some of these quiet but incredible gallery exhibitions in between attending all of those crowded art fairs!
Alex suggests to start with…
"Looking Back" @ White Columns thru 3/4
It feels fitting that “Looking Back”, an annual past-focused exhibition at White Columns, lasts long enough to synch up with the Armory Week fairs, where work by familiar artists is recontextualized in a new setting. Curated by ARTnews senior editor and artist Anne Doran, “Looking Back” is organized around her experiences with art in New York this past year, and features amazing artists like William Eggleston, David Hammons, Nicole Eisenman, and more. It’s a much less abrasive way to take in 2016’s trends, and if you feel any deja vu, it’s not because you’ve been down this aisle of fair booths before.
And make sure you also check out:
